Postdoctoral Position

Bioinformatics, Genomics, and Epidemiology of Cancer

The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Chicago seek candidates for fully-funded postdoctoral positions in the areas of Bioinformatics, Genomic, and Cancer Epidemiology. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in bioinformatics, human genetics, epidemiology, or a related field.

Successful candidates will participate in NIH-funded genomic and molecular epidemiology research, utilizing data sources from both in the US and Africa, including the design, development, implementation and analysis of cancer genomics research projects with particular emphasis on germline/somatic variant calling, mutation signature estimate, tumor evolution and heterogeneity analysis as well as manuscript and grant writing.

Ideal candidates should have a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, Epidemiology or a related field. Candidates should have strong programming and statistical skills (e.g., R, SAS, STATA), informatics expertise (e.g., Unix, Python), and strong writing skills. Candidates with substantial experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, proficiency in big data management and analysis are preferred. Ideal candidates will also have familiarity with functional genomics databases such as ENCODE and FANTOM and research experience in RNA-seq and methylation array data analysis.

 Postdoctoral Fellows will be mentored to pursue independent research careers. The University of Chicago offers outstanding training opportunities for multidisciplinary cancer and genomic research by providing state of the art research resources encompassing a large number of faculty members involved in epidemiological, molecular and statistical aspects of genomic and gene-environment research; access to high throughput genomic facilities and related bio-statistical and bioinformatics support; and clinical data/bio-specimen repositories from multiethnic populations.
