The Department of Public Health Sciences, Department of Human Genetics, and the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Chicago seek candidates for fully-funded postdoctoral position in the areas of Genomic, Environmental, and Cancer Epidemiology. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in epidemiology, human genetics, environmental health, bioinformatics, or a related field.
Successful candidates will participate in NIH-funded genomic and molecular epidemiology research, utilizing data sources from both in the US and Bangladesh. The general research focus will be on understanding the interplay between genomic factors (genome-wide measures of SNPs, DNA methylation, gene expression) environmental exposures (arsenic, dietary factors), and molecular phenotypes (telomeres length, somatic mutation, serum biomarkers), and determining their roles in cancer and aging.
Ideal candidates will have strong statistical and programming skills (e.g., R, SAS, STATA), informatics expertise (e.g., unix, Python), and strong writing skills. Candidates with interest and experience analyzing large-scale genomic datasets (e.g., NGS, array-based DNA methylation, GWAS) are preferred. Ideal candidates will also have familiarity with wet-lab aspects of molecular epidemiology as well as environmental and/or cancer epidemiology.
Postdoctoral Fellows will be mentored to pursue independent research careers. The University of Chicago offers outstanding training opportunities for multidisciplinary Cancer and Genetic Epidemiology research by providing state of the art research resources encompassing a large number of faculty members involved in epidemiological, molecular and statistical aspects of genomic and gene-environment research; access to high throughput genomic facilities and related bio-statistical and bioinformatics support; and clinical data/bio-specimen repositories from multiethnic populations.
Please send a letter including a statement of research interests and future goals, curriculum vitae, and names and addresses of three references to: Dr. Brandon Pierce (brandonpierce@uchicago.edu). Application review will begin immediately but will continue until the position is filled.
